Eligibility and Entry
This regatta is open to all registered CR 914s. Enter by completing the attached entry form and mail it to the Regatta Chairman prior to the regatta.
Entries will be limited to 24 boats. Registrants are required to register in advance. There is an incentive for early registration: registrations will be accepted on a first-come first-serve basis, and once 24 registrations have been received no further entries will be accepted.
Rules
This regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008 (RRS) including Appendix E, and the rules of the CR 914 class, except as any of these are changed by the Sailing Instructions and by this Notice of Race.
Class rule 8, requiring all boats to have a class-approved bow bumper, will be in effect. No boat with a modified bow bumper will be permitted to race.
The RRS and class rules are amended as follows:
(1) The Principle Race Officer may disqualify a competitor from further race participation for bad sportsmanship, including disrespectful behavior toward another competitor.
(2) Class rule 13.1 is amended to add: “Boats are not allowed to change, reef or unreef sails after the regatta has begun. That is, after a boat has raced once with a given sail configuration, that configuration must be used for the remainder of the regatta” (as per Interpretation 14 in the April-July 2002 issue of CR 914 NEWS).
(3) RRS rule 5.3 is replaced with: “A boat intending to submit a protest shall inform the Principle Race Officer immediately after completing the relevant race.”
(4) RRS rule 30.1 (Round-an-End Rule) and RRS rule 30.3 (Black Flag Rule) are amended: Notification that these rules are in effect will be by hail from the Principle Race Officer before the starting count-down is initiated, rather than by code flag.
(5) RRS rule 31.1 (Touching a Mark) is amended: A boat may touch a mark of the course, other than those that
define the start-finish line while she is starting or finishing, without penalty.
(6) RRS rule 61.2 (Protest Contents) is amended: The protest does not need to be in writing.
(7) RRS rule E3.2 (Course Board) is amended: There will be no Course Board.
(8) RRS rule E3.5 (Starting Races) is replaced with: “Rule 26 is replaced with: `The starting sequence shall be
60 seconds long, beginning with a Preparatory Signal that announces that there is one minute until the start.’”
(9) RRS rule E4.5(c) (Launching and Relaunching) is amended to read: “While ashore or at the water’s edge,
boats may be adjusted, drained of water or repaired, have entangled objects removed, or have batteries changed.”
Venue
Racing will take place on the pond at VOA Park on Tylersville Rd. in West Chester, OH (North of Cincinnati).
The start-finish line will likely be set in a park-like area along the shore of the pond. Competitors and spectators should park on the parking lot located west of the pond. Competitors’ meetings, lunch breaks and the awards presentation ceremony will take place at the pond of VOA Park. A map showing how to find the location is posted on the CMYC website, at http://regatta1.com/site/cmyc/location.php.
Radio Channel Information
Please review the information about radio channels and M3SC’s attempts to prevent radio interference on the M3SC
website, at http://www.m3sc.org/radio_channels.htm before completing the radio channel section of the entry form. Indicate all spare crystals that you own.
Format
Since this is a AMYA Region 4 regatta, boats will be measured and weighted to verify complaince with Class Rules. Boats participating in the regatta must be registered with AMYA and must present a valid AMYA registration number at check-in.
If the number of participants exceeds 13, the fleet will be divided into Gold and Silver divisions of approximately equal size based on the results of the Qualifying Series on Saturday . The Qualifying Series will use a Heat Management System (HMS). Gold and Silver fleets will then race in separate heats, for separate trophies, for the remainder of the regatta. Awards will be presented to the top three places of each division.
Check-in
(17:00-19:00 Friday, 09:00-10:00 Saturday) Upon arriving at CMYC on Friday or Saturday, each sailor should report immediately to the check-in desk to receive his/her registration package. Included in this package will be the Sailing Instructions and confirmation of radio channel assignments. Also boats will be measured and weighted and AMYA registration will be checked.
Housing
Around West Chester there are numerous hotels and motels located 5 minutes from CMYC's pond. A list is posted on the regatta webpage, at http://www.regatta1.com/site/cmyc/region4_2005.php with some special rates for our guests.
Boat Storage and Battery Charging
Boats may be stored and batteries charged (bring your own charger) overnight at some of CMYC member's homes. Electrical power is not available at the start-finish area. It is the individual skipper’s responsibility to ensure he/she has proper batteries.
Social Activities and Meals
We will provide water, coffee, sodas and a light lunch onsite during the regatta (Saturday & Sunday). An optional dinner will take place at a restaurant to be defined before the regatta where sailors will get together to meet in a relaxing atmosphere. Each person will pay his/her own dinner.
Weather, Dress, Facilities, etc.
Daytime temperatures may be anywhere from 50 degrees to slightly above 100, so bring sailing clothing appropriate
for any weather. Nearly all of the possible start-finish lines are in a park-like area, and there are “deep water” launching areas with a small dock. It is unlikely that you will need boots. The nearest toilets are at several restaurants and shopping centers. It is CMYC’s intention to race if it rains. Competitors are responsible for providing their own foul weather gear and protection against rain for their transmitters.
