It is time!

Our sailing season is almost here.

Over the winter, we met and decided that we will be sailing for fun and practice every Monday evening. Then we will have a race day that will happen once a month, the 2nd Saturday of each month.

We will begin our sailing at Cottell Park and depeding on how the algee problem progresses we will make a decision.

The schedule has been updated.

Second Spring race day report

Sunday May 20th was a beautiful day for sailing.  The weather was warm mid to high 70's with a nice breeze from the west.

John, Al, Dave T and Dave Y made it to the pond for a very nice afternoon sail.

We were able to easily get in 10 races with varying wind conditions.  The course selection varied between an east - west course to a north-east - south west course.  The wind was solid with some gusts which added to the excitment throughout the afternoon.

Dave T had a nice selection of bouys in the pond which gave us a few options with the varying wind conditions.

Overall a good day had by all.  Full results

2007 racing season gets started

10 seconds to start!...........5...4...3...2...1...Boom!!!

Finally the spring series starts this Sunday the 22nd and we will be sailing the spring series at Cottell Park Pond at the corner of Irwin-Simpson Rd and Snider Rd in Deerfield Township  S.  of Mason.  Use the following links for easy navigation to the park.

You may also remember that we sailed the last race of '06 there as well.  This pond is elevated with no obstructions (other than the island) and has a nice walking path and playground as well as a port-o-jon.  A group of individuals will be going down around 2 PM to set some marks and will have some throw-ables as well.  Anyone willing to help out can join us at around 2PM.  Let's try real hard to begin our first race at the scheduled 3 PM start time.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and it looks like a GREAT SPRING DAY with low 70's and 12 MPH winds.

See ya' at Cottell on the 22nd.

Dave Y wins Sunday Sailes Spring regatta

By Brian Sims.

This past weekend we had the perfect weather for our 7th annual spring regatta. Wind was 10-15 from the southwest switching to the south by the end of the day. The  course was a windward-leeward course with a windward offset mark.

The starting line was wide enough for the 15 boats that raced together by the end of the day. The day started with 2 fleets. The CR-914s and the Northwind 36s. After several races and some mechanical and structural failures, we lost a couple boats in each class.

After a great lunch provided by Pat and Charlie Daugherty, we resumed racing. Once the NW36's had finished their 2 heat races, we decided to combine the two classes and race them together. This proved to be the best part of the day. 15 boats on the line, winds 10+ from the SSW, a good chop on the water, and great racing! The fleet was tight with no real advantage between the two classes of boats.

The day ended shortly  after Don Bonkofsky almost lost his rig because of a collision in the next to last race! After the racing, we finished out the day with trophies for 1st  and 2nd places for both classes. Also, our local hobby shop, Scale Reproductions,  provided some nice donations for our free raffle after the awards ceremony.
